Roland SE-02 and ARP 2600 Bass (Live Synth Jam)

Published on Nov 5, 2017 Ralph Baumgartl

"In this Live Synthesizer Jam I am using the new Roland SE-02 monophonic Synth in conjunction with the ARP 2600 semi modular Synthesizer. The bass sounds from these two Synths work nicely together, and the 'After Touch' feature of the SE-02 offers great sonic possibilities when playing live. The Jam Session is my style of IDM and Electronica with some traces of Ambient and a little bit of Berlin School of Electronic Music. Enjoy!

The gear list:
Roland SE-02 (Studio Electronics), ARP 2600 with Arturia Keystep Controller (also acting as a Midi/CV interface), Korg M50, Arturia Microbrute, Roland Vocoder VP-330, Roland JD-Xi, Roland JX-3P, Akai MPK25 controlling Macbook with Logic Pro, Strymon BigSky, Strymon Timeline, Zoom MS-70CDR, Boss BX-600 mixer, MOTU Micro Lite USB Midi Interface, Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK."

Synth Sequencer Echo Electronica (ARP 2600, Microbrute, Volca Keys, Roland JD-Xi, Strymon)

Published on Sep 26, 2017 Ralph Baumgartl

"Electronica Live Synthesizer Jam using the ARP 2600 for Bass and the Korg Volca Keys, Arturia Microbrute and Korg M50 for Lead Sequencer lines. The Delay (Strymon Timeline) and Reverb (Strymon BigSky) effects are synced via Midi Clock. Once again I think that I have subconsciously been influenced by the music of Jean-Michel Jarre, although this track is a bit more on the aggressive side with its 130 BPM.

The gear list:
ARP 2600 with Arturia Keystep Controller, Korg M50, Korg Volca Keys, Arturia Microbrute, Roland Vocoder VP-330, Roland JD-Xi, Roland JX-3P, Akai MPK25 controlling Macbook with Logic Pro, Strymon BigSky, Strymon Timeline, Zoom MS-70CDR, Boss BX-600 mixer, MOTU Micro Lite USB Midi Interface, Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK."

Relaxation Music with Tibetan Singing Bowls and Synthesizers - VR 360° Video (Live Synth Jam)

Published on Apr 16, 2017 Ralph Baumgartl

Some 360° synth spotting. You'll need a browser other than Safari that supports it though.

"This Live Synth Jam is our first attempt at Relaxation and Meditation Music. My friend Bernie was using various Tibetan, Thai and Burmese Singing Bowls, Gongs and Chimes, which were recorded with a Zoom H2N audio recorder and mixed together with the Synthesizer and Keyboard recording from the mixer. This was a spontaneous idea to try out something that we haven’t done before. The video is VR 360°.

The gear list for the Synth Rig: Roland JD-Xi, Mini Korg-700, Minimoog Voyager, Memotron, Korg Micro-X, Strymon BigSky, Strymon Timeline, Zoom MS-70CDR."

Live Retro Synth Jam (Back to the future of 1973 Berlin School of Electronic Music)

Published on Jan 10, 2017 Ralph Baumgartl

"This Live Synth Jam is our way of going back to the future of 1973 Berlin School of Electronic Music ;-) While my jam buddy ‘Imaginary Landscape’ (Hans-Dieter Schmidt) and me (Ralph Baumgartl) were setting up our gear, we were talking about Tangerine Dream’s album Phaedra which was recorded in late 1973. That discussion actually set the mood for our subsequent Synthesizer Live Jam in which we are trying recreate a similar 1973 Berlin School atmosphere. The Berlin School type sequencer line is played by the DSI Prophet 08 Rack Synth. I hope we succeeded. Please indulge us ;-)

Full Gear List:
Imaginary Landscape plays: Roli Seaboard Rise 49, Kurzweil PC3K6, NI Komplete, Equator, Eventide Space & Eventide Timefactor, MacBook Pro.

Ralph Baumgartl plays: ARP 2600 with Arturia Keystep Controller, Korg Volca Keys, DSI Prophet 08 Rack Synth controlled by Roland JD-Xi, Arturia Microbrute, ELKA Elkatwin 61, Roland Vocoder VP-330, Strymon BigSky, Strymon Timeline, Zoom MS-70CDR.

Moog Micromoog | Monophonic Analog Synthesizer

Published on Nov 26, 2016 Ralph Baumgartl

"We are taking a very quick look at the Moog Micromoog, which was introduced to the market in 1975. The Multimoog was derived from the Micromoog and was launched on the market in 1978. Both monophonic analog Synthesizers share a common manual which had the schematic drawings included. The Micromoog features one Voltage-controlled oscillator with variable waveshape, which can be infinitely adjusted from Saw to Square to Pulse. The LFO, Sample & Hold and Noise generator can also be used to modulate the waveshape, which allows for some fat sounds. This concept provides more sonic options than simple Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)."

Gear used: Arturia KeyStep, ARP 2600, Strymon BigSky, Strymon Timeline, Zoom MS-70CDR, Boss BX-600"
